This gadget puts the recirculated "wort" back on top of the grain bed, the "H" is placed about 1/2 inch below the water level in the mash tun. The wort travels through the mash heater then up to the top of the grain bed. The wort is usually clear within 30 minutes of dough in, I usually recirculate at about 8 quarts per min for 75 minutes

.
I built this kettle flusher with a lawn sprinkler and some copper tube I had left over, It's a real back saver and all you have to do is wash the kettle out with soap and then turn it over and turn on the hot water to rinse gravity does the rest,
I also run a hose off my hot water heater so my water is around 150 degrees when it goes in the HLT or this sprinkler.
I used a polysulphone quick disconnect and a small brass shut off valve and a 12 inch piece of braided hose. I have a port on my rims system to hot water flush the system when I am done brewing for the day. saves alot of time in cleanup.
